If you scroll through our Completed Roofing Project Portfolio, you'll see two CertainTeed names over and over: Landmark and Belmont IR. We install both across North Texas, and homeowners ask us all the time which one is right for their house. Here's how we explain the difference, without the sales pitch.

A quick note before we start: product details, ratings and warranties come from the manufacturer and can change. We'll always walk you through the current specs and paperwork for the exact product going on your home.

What Is CertainTeed Landmark?

Landmark is CertainTeed's well-known architectural shingle. It's a dimensional, laminated shingle, which means two layers bonded together to give a roof depth and shadow lines instead of a flat look. It comes in a wide range of colors. On our portfolio videos you'll see colors like Georgetown Gray in Highland Village and Black/Moire on a big transformation in Lantana.

The Landmark systems we install are Class 3 impact-resistant. Matthew walks through one in our videos: Class 3 shingles are rated to withstand a certain size of hail, a real step up from the basic shingles a lot of roofers put on.

What Is CertainTeed Belmont IR?

Belmont IR is a more premium, designer-style shingle. "IR" stands for impact resistant. Belmont is designed to look more like slate or high-end shake, with a heavier, more sculpted profile. On our videos you can see Belmont IR in Weathered Wood on a Flower Mound home and on a completed project in Southlake.

Belmont tends to be chosen when the homeowner wants a more upscale, textured look, often on larger homes or homes with a lot of roofline showing from the street.

How Do They Compare Side by Side?

  • Look: Landmark has the classic architectural look. Belmont has a deeper, more sculpted, slate-like look.
  • Impact resistance: Both systems we install are impact-resistant options. Ask for the current rating on the exact product.
  • Colors: Both come in multiple colors. Landmark's lineup is especially wide.
  • Weight and profile: Belmont is a heavier, thicker-looking shingle.
  • Cost: Belmont generally costs more than Landmark. We'll give you real numbers in a written estimate for your home, not a guess on a blog.

What Matters More Than the Shingle Itself?

The system. Matthew is a broken record about this, and for good reason. A great shingle on a poorly built roof is still a poorly built roof. On our roofs, we:

  • Install high-profile, impact-resistant ridge caps
  • Put valley metal in the valleys to protect against hail and water
  • Replace all the vents and flashings, because code requires it and it's how you get a roof that doesn't leak
  • Use ice and water membrane on lower-slope areas and other spots that need it
  • Reinstall gutter guards if you had them

Read a quality roof starts before the first shingle for the full rundown.

How Should I Choose Between Them?

  1. Look at real roofs. Drive your neighborhood. Watch our portfolio videos. Texas sun changes colors a lot.
  2. Match your brick and trim. Weathered Wood looks different on light brick than on red brick.
  3. Check HOA rules for approved products and colors.
  4. Think about how long you'll stay. If it's your forever home, a premium look may matter more.
  5. Ask your agent how impact-rated roofs may affect your premiums. That's their call, not ours.

Can G3 Help Me Decide?

Absolutely. We'll bring samples, show you photos of finished homes nearby and give you a written estimate for each option. No pressure. Learn more on our roofing and storm damage page or call (945) 300-9018.
