One of our favorite videos in the portfolio is the one where we roofed four neighbors' homes with CertainTeed Landmark Class 3 shingles. Same street, same storm, same product line, and four houses that each look like their own thing. It's like a cooking show where everybody gets the same ingredients and walks away with a different dish.

Here's what a street full of new roofs teaches about picking colors, plus a few tips for anybody about to choose.

Why Do Whole Streets Need New Roofs at Once?

Because hail doesn't pick one house. When a storm comes through North Texas, it usually hits the whole neighborhood. If your neighbors are getting new roofs, it's worth having yours looked at too. Damage is damage, and it doesn't skip houses just to be polite.

When several homes on one street choose us, we can coordinate schedules, and the crew already knows the area. And the neighbors can compare notes, which is half the fun.

How Much Does Shingle Color Change a House?

More than you'd think. Put Black/Moire next to Weathered Wood next to Georgetown Gray and you'll see how much a roof color shifts the personality of a house. In our portfolio:

  • Black/Moire gives a sharp, modern contrast, like the transformation we did in Lantana.
  • Georgetown Gray is a cool, clean gray that plays well with lighter brick and stone, as on our Highland Village project.
  • Weathered Wood has warm brown and gray tones that look at home on traditional Texas brick.

Brick, stone, trim and front doors do the rest. Same product line, totally different vibe.

How Do I Pick a Color Without Second-Guessing Myself?

Here's the method we'd use:

  1. Drive your neighborhood and take photos of roofs you like. Ask the owners what color it is. People love talking about their houses.
  2. Look at real roofs, not just samples. A 2-inch chip in your hand looks different than 3,000 square feet on a roof.
  3. Look at different times of day. Texas sun at noon and Texas sun at sunset are two different paint jobs.
  4. Hold samples against your brick and trim, outside, in daylight.
  5. Check your HOA guidelines for approved products and colors before you fall in love.
  6. Watch our portfolio videos. Drone footage of a finished roof shows color and lines better than photos.

Why Class 3 Impact-Resistant Shingles?

Matthew explains it in our videos: Class 3 shingles are rated to withstand a certain size of hail, a real step up from the basic shingles a lot of roofers install. They're not hail-proof. Big hail can still damage them. But here in hail country, we want a roofing system built to perform and protect, so you're not replacing your roof every season. Ask your agent how impact-rated roofs may affect your premiums. That's their call.

And remember, the shingle is only part of the system. Read a quality roof starts before the first shingle to see what goes underneath.

Is It Okay to Copy My Neighbor's Color?

Of course. Or not. Some streets look great with a mix, and some HOAs like consistency. Matching your neighbor can look intentional and tidy. Picking something different can give your house its own identity. There's no wrong answer, as long as it works with your brick and you love it.

How Can I Be a Good Neighbor About It?

If G3 did a great job on your roof, tell the folks next door. If you notice your neighbor's gutters are dented after a storm, mention it. Be Grateful. Be Generous. Be Good. It's how we've grown, one relationship at a time.
