Santa's Workshop in the Heart of Texas: Behind the Scenes

Watch: Santa's Workshop in the Heart of Texas

The elves have convened.

Every holiday season, G3 turns into Santa's workshop in the heart of Texas. Watch the video above for a peek. Most of the year, our crew is up on roofs doing roofing and restoration work. Then the weather cools off, the pumpkin spice comes out, and the shop fills up with lights, clips, ladders and a whole lot of Christmas spirit.

We thought y'all might like to see what goes on behind the scenes.

Where Does a Holiday Lighting Job Start?

With you, at your kitchen table or on your phone. Our online estimator walks you through it: tell us about you, pick your areas (rooflines, trees, beds or walkways), draw your design right on a photo of your home and finalize. A lot of folks are surprised how fun the drawing part is. It's basically coloring on your house.

Then the elves go to work. We review your design and confirm everything with you before install day. If something needs adjusting, like a roofline that's trickier than it looks in the photo, we'll talk it through with you.

What Happens in the Workshop Before Install Day?

This is the part nobody sees. Before the crew ever gets to your house:

  1. Designs get reviewed. Your drawing gets turned into a plan the crew can follow.
  2. Lights get prepped. Commercial-grade C9 LEDs, custom fit to your home's peaks, gables and eaves.
  3. Gear gets checked. Ladders, safety equipment and the right clips for your shingles, tile and gutters.
  4. Schedules get built. We confirm your install date with you.

If we're reusing lights from a past season, we'll ask you to put your storage bin on the porch the day before. Think of it as leaving cookies out for the crew. (Actual cookies are always welcome, too. Just saying.)

What Does Install Day Look Like?

Our crew shows up, gets to work and handles the heights so you stay on the ground. Because we're roofers first, we know how to move around safely on steep and tricky roofs without damaging anything. No nails. No staples. No cracked tile.

The best part is the end of the day, when the sun goes down and the house lights up for the first time. We never get tired of that. Kids running out in pajamas, neighbors slowing down, somebody snapping a picture. That's why we do it.

Who Are the Elves?

Our own G3 crew, Licensed & Insured. Electrical work is handled by our licensed electrical partner. The same folks who take care of North Texas roofs all year. We like the people we work with, and plenty of our lighting clients become friends who call us for other things, too. Construction shouldn't feel transactional. Neither should Christmas.

What Happens After the Holidays?

The elves come back. After the season, our crew takes everything down carefully, clip by clip, and packs it into a storage bin that stays at your home. Then the workshop gets cleaned up, and everybody goes back to roofs and restoration until next year.

Read more about that part of the season in our guide to holiday light takedown and storage.

Why Does G3 Do Holiday Lighting at All?

Honestly, because it's fun, and because it fits who we are. G3 stands for Be Grateful. Be Generous. Be Good. Holiday lighting is a chance to make somebody's season a little brighter and a lot easier. And it keeps somebody's dad off a ladder in December, which we'll count as a public service.

You can see more of our installs on our videos page and read what customers say on our reviews page.
