WatchStorm Damage? G3 Roofing & Construction Is Your Best ChoiceAfter a big North Texas storm, a lot of people want to look at your roof. Some of them want to sell you one. We want to tell you what's actually up there. That's the whole point of an inspection: facts, photos and an honest answer.
Here's exactly how G3 inspects a roof after a storm, so you know what to expect, and what to expect from anybody else.
What Happens Before We Climb Up?
We start on the ground, walking the property. We're looking at the collateral, which Matthew calls the story. Collateral is everything that shows what kind of storm hit and how hard:
- Gutters and downspouts
- Window screens and wraps
- The AC condenser
- Fences, decks, mailboxes and patio furniture
- Siding, paint and stucco
- Garage doors
Dents, spatter marks and torn screens help show hail size and direction. Debris in the yard can show wind damage.
What Do We Check on the Roof?
Then we go up, safely, and inspect the roof slope by slope. We look at:
- Shingles: bruises, cracks, exposed mat, granule loss, creases and lifted tabs
- Ridge caps and hips: damage and missing pieces
- Soft metals: vents, caps, slant-backs and flashing, where hail dents show clearly
- Valleys: damage and debris
- Penetrations: pipe boots, chimneys, skylights and exhaust vents
- The product: what shingle is on the roof and whether it's still made
We chalk-mark hits so they show up clearly in photos. We take wide shots and close-ups of each slope. If wind lifted shingles, we document that separately from hail.
Do We Check Inside the House?
When it's helpful and you're comfortable, yes. We look at ceilings for stains and, if accessible, the attic for leaks, wet insulation or daylight. If we see interior water damage, CMDR Restoration, our mitigation partner (licensed by TDLR, RCO #1801), can assess moisture.
What Do You Get Afterward?
You get the truth, with photos. We sit down with you and walk through what we found, good or bad. If we see storm damage, we'll show you where and what kind. If we don't, we'll tell you that. Matthew is clear about this: we don't hard sell. We simply show you the photos and let you decide.
If there's damage, we may recommend you talk with your carrier. We don't call it in for you. We're your contractor. We inspect, document and rebuild, and we don't negotiate or adjust claims.
What If My Roof Needs Work?
Then we'll give you a written scope and estimate. If it's a replacement, we'll walk you through our system: Class 3 impact-resistant shingles, high-profile ridge, valley metal, new vents and flashings, and ice and water where it's needed. And we'll include the other damage we found, like gutters, screens and AC parts, not just the roof.
Read how to read a roofing estimate so you know what you're looking at.
What Should I Do Before the Inspector Arrives?
Gather what you already have: the date of the storm, any photos you took and anything you found in the yard. Note any ceiling stains or leaks and where they are. Make sure the inspector can get into the backyard and, if you're comfortable, the attic. Write down your questions. There's no such thing as a silly one.
