Are Professional Christmas Lights Worth It?

We made a short called "Your Christmas Lights Shouldn't Require a Trip to the ER." That's most of the argument right there, but y'all deserve a straight answer, so let's walk through it.

I'm not going to tell you everybody needs to hire out their Christmas lights. Some folks love doing it. It's tradition, the kids help, Dad gets up on the ladder, and that's great. But a lot of homeowners are doing it because they think they have to, and they'd honestly rather not. If that's you, here's what to think about.

What Does DIY Christmas Lighting Really Cost You?

The strands at the store are the cheap part. The real cost is everything else:

  • Your weekends. Planning, untangling, testing bulbs, running to the store for the clips you forgot, then actually hanging it all. Then doing it again in reverse after New Year's.
  • Ladders and roofs. North Texas homes have a lot of steep pitches, second stories and complex rooflines. Cold mornings and dew make shingles slick.
  • The roof itself. Nails and staples leave holes in shingles. Walking a tile roof the wrong way cracks tile. Those little mistakes show up later as leaks.
  • Replacing strands every year. Store-bought sets don't always make it to next season.

When you add it up, a lot of people realize they were paying in time, risk and frustration.

Is Hiring a Pro Actually Safer?

Yes, and this is the part I care about most. Ladders and roofs are dangerous. Our crew is up on roofs all year long for roofing and restoration work. They're trained, they have the right equipment, and G3 is Licensed & Insured. Electrical work is handled by our licensed electrical partner.

If you want to see what we mean, watch the short above. Then look at the max-difficulty roof video on our lighting page. That's not a roof anybody should be on with a borrowed extension ladder.

Does a Professional Install Look Better?

It does, and the reason is pretty simple. We custom fit lights to your home. Every peak, gable and eave gets measured, so the lines are straight, the corners are clean and nothing droops. We use commercial-grade C9 LEDs, which are bright and consistent from one end of the house to the other.

When you DIY, you're working with whatever length the box came in. That's why so many houses have a strand that stops three feet short of the corner, or a big loop hanging off the gutter. The difference is in the details.

Who Takes the Lights Down?

We do. That's one of the best parts. After the season, our crew takes everything down and packs it into a storage bin that stays at your home. No January weekend on the ladder. No mystery box of tangled lights in the garage.

What Does the Process Look Like?

It's easy, and it really is that easy:

  1. Start our online estimator. Share your info, pick your areas (rooflines, trees, beds or walkways) and draw your design right on a photo of your home.
  2. We confirm everything with you before install day.
  3. Our crew installs.
  4. You enjoy the season.
  5. We take it all down afterward.

When Is DIY the Right Call?

If you have a single-story house with a simple roofline, you enjoy doing it, and you're comfortable on a ladder, go for it. Use clips instead of nails, use outdoor-rated cords, plug into GFCI outlets and have somebody hold the ladder. Our holiday lighting safety tips walk through the basics.

If any of those don't describe you, that's what we're here for. No high-pressure pitch. Tell us what you want and we'll help you understand your options.

How Do I Know G3 Is the Right Crew?

Don't take my word for it. Read what our customers say on our reviews page, watch our installs, and ask us anything. We'd rather earn your trust than sell you something. Construction shouldn't feel transactional, and neither should Christmas lights.
