When you get to the job and think, "I should've gotten here earlier." Still got it done. Wasps, snakes, spiders and all.
That's one of our favorite reels, and if you've ever let a yard get away from you, you probably felt it in your soul. Life happens. A rental sits empty. A summer gets busy. Somebody's lawn guy quits in July. Next thing you know, the backyard looks like a nature preserve.
Would you go in a backyard this overgrown? We would. It's kind of our thing.
How Does a Yard Get This Overgrown?
Pretty easily, honestly. In North Texas, a few warm, rainy weeks in spring or early summer and grass and weeds just take off. Common reasons we see:
- Vacant or rental properties that went a season without service.
- A homeowner who was traveling, sick or just slammed.
- A lawn company that stopped showing up.
- New homeowners who inherited a yard from someone else.
- An empty lot nobody has mowed in ages, like the one we mowed in Argyle so the builders could get to work.
No judgment here. We've seen it all.
What Does an Overgrown Yard Cleanup Include?
Every job is different, but a full cleanup usually goes like this:
- Walk the property. We look for hazards first: holes, debris hiding in tall grass, wasp nests and, yes, snakes.
- Knock it down. Cut tall grass and weeds down in stages. One lawn we brought back to life took four passes with the mowers.
- Clean up beds. Pull weeds, cut back overgrown plants and clear out what doesn't belong.
- Trim shrubs. Reshape bushes that swallowed the windows.
- Haul away debris. Branches, junk and yard waste. We'll save you the trip to the dump.
- Edge and finish. Clean edges, blown-off surfaces and maybe fresh mulch.

Is It Safe to Clean Up an Overgrown Yard Myself?
Small jobs, sure. But tall grass hides things. A few tips if you're going to tackle it:
- Wear boots, long pants and gloves.
- Walk it first and look for holes, rocks, glass, pipes and sprinkler heads before you mow.
- Watch for wasps and bees, especially around fences, eaves and shrubs.
- Snakes like tall grass. Make noise and give them room.
- Don't try to scalp it in one pass. Cut it down gradually.
If it's bad enough that you're nervous to walk into it, call us. That's what we do.
What Happens After the Cleanup?
That's the fun part. Once the yard is cleaned up, keeping it that way is easy with regular service. One of our clients in North Sky in Celina hired us for lawn and bed maintenance after their cleanup. We're so grateful for clients like that.
Regular mowing at the proper height keeps grass healthy and weeds down. Read why consistency matters in our good vs. bad mowing guide. If the grass is too far gone, new sod might be the move. Check out our full yard transformation with zoysia sod.
Do Cleanups Help Sell a House?
Absolutely. Curb appeal matters. We cleaned up beds, trimmed the bushes and installed black mulch on one home to instantly boost the curb appeal for the seller. A clean yard makes a strong first impression for buyers and renters.
Why Do We Actually Like These Jobs?
Because the before and after is so satisfying. You pull up to a yard nobody wants to walk into, and you leave with clean lines, trimmed beds and a lawn that looks like a lawn again. A transformation like this isn't easy, and that's exactly why it feels good. This is why we do what we do.
