Category 3 Water Loss Parody: Why We Made It

Let's be honest. Nobody wakes up excited to learn about water mitigation standards. Category 3 water, flood cuts, moisture logs, clearance testing. It's important stuff, but it's not exactly dinner-party conversation. So we tried something different. We made a parody.

Our Cat3 Water Loss Parody, "Delay, Deny, Defend," kicks off a series we call Insurers Behaving Badly. It's exaggerated on purpose. It's meant to make you laugh, and then make you think.

Why Use Humor for Something This Stressful?

Because water damage is stressful. When you're standing in a wet kitchen, you don't want a lecture. Humor gets attention and lowers the temperature. People remember a funny scene far longer than a bullet list. If a parody helps one family remember to document the damage or choose a crew they trust, it did its job.

And frankly, we have fun doing it. Matthew believes construction shouldn't feel transactional. Neither should learning about it.

Is the Parody Based on a Real Job?

It's a parody. Watch it for the lesson, not the facts. The characters and situations are exaggerated. But the frustrations behind it are real ones homeowners tell us about: confusion, delays and not knowing who's on their side.

What Are the Real Lessons Under the Jokes?

1. Category 3 water is serious. Sewage, floodwater and other contaminated water need extra care, protective gear and more removal. Read Category 3 water: what black water means for the real details.

2. Mitigation has standards. The IICRC sets standards for how water losses should be handled, including flood cuts at least 18 inches above where moisture was found. Shortcuts cause problems later.

3. Documentation matters. Photos, moisture logs, removed materials lists and clearance letters tell the story of your loss. When documentation is thin, things get missed.

4. You get to choose who works on your home. A lot of homeowners don't realize it. Take a breath before you sign anything.

5. Restoration takes time. Matthew is honest that it usually takes longer than it should. Patience and a contractor you trust help a lot.

6. Know who does what. Your contractor inspects, documents and rebuilds. Questions about your policy belong with your carrier or agent.

Why Does the Title Say "Delay, Deny, Defend"?

Because those are the feelings homeowners describe to us when a loss drags on. It's satire, not a claim about any company. The point is to name the frustration so people feel less alone in it, then give them practical steps.

What Else Is in the Series?

The parody is one piece of our video library. We also have:

  • A case study where Matthew walks through a real water loss and the protocol behind it
  • Roof Denied videos that show documentation on real North Texas roofs
  • Completed project videos, remodels and even Christmas lighting

Check them out on our videos page. Grab some popcorn. Matthew insists.

Why Does G3 Make Videos Like This at All?

Because sharing what we know is part of who we are. Be Grateful. Be Generous. Be Good. Our name is G3 Knows for a reason. We'd rather you understand your home and your options before you need us. If that means putting on a costume now and then, so be it.

What Should I Do If I'm Living the Unfunny Version?

If you've got water in your home right now, skip the comedy and call (945) 300-9018. CMDR Restoration, our mitigation partner (licensed by TDLR, RCO #1801), handles extraction and drying, and G3 rebuilds. Learn more on our water damage page.
